Easter Wreath {Tutorial}

Yesterday I was hanging out with Dee over at From Wine to Whine and shared my Easter wreath and tutorial.

I love it so much and just in case you missed it, I’m sharing it again!

Isn’t it so Springy and Eastery?!  When I was brainstorming this one I had no idea what my final product was going to look like.  It is moments like that, that I just have to walk around Michael’s and wait for the inspirational craftiness to strike!

After a few laps around the Easter aisles I decided I wanted my wreath to be a sort of grown up version of an Easter basket.  Enter, the Easter grass!  You may or may not know about my obsession with those laser cut srolly frames from Michael’s, but I can’t seem to make a wreath lately without one!  Now they have little ones too!  Swoon…  Throw in some pink chevron and of course some Easter eggs and you’ve got an Easter basket kinda wreath!

Since I was starting with a white wreath form and I wanted my end product to be green with the Easter grass I started by wrapping wide green grosgrain ribbon around the entire wreath.  This helped prevent any white spots from poking through in the end.  I secured the ends with some hot glue.

I’m not going to lie, when I started with the Easter grass idea, I wasn’t exactly sure what I was getting into.  This stuff is messy!  I tore the grass off in chunks and using {a ton of} hot glue I kinda scrunched it on to the wreath.  As I was attaching the grass it was reminding me of doing my hair.  Scrunch, set in place with hair dryer and defuser, spray to perfection.  As little bits and pieces of the grass were falling to the floor I had the genius idea to hair spray the heck out of the grass onto the wreath to keep all those little pieces not hot glued on, on to the wreath.  Worked like a charm!

Once all the grass was glued and sprayed I positioned my frame and eggs.

The eggs came with a little stick on them that I just snapped off and hot glued the eggs onto the wreath.

Before I started on the wreath I spray painted the scrolly frame white.  I have found with these frames spray painting them is way faster and easier than painting by hand.

Using my Silhouette machine I cut out the Easter Bunny shape with white card stock.  If you don’t have a Silhouette or similar cutting machine I am sure you could find and image online and print, trace onto the card stock and cut by hand.

I attached the pink and white chevron paper and centered the Easter Bunny in the frame.

Once everything had dried I decided the wreath was missing something.  I headed back to Michael’s for one of my walk around until the inspiration strikes trips.  The yellow and white stripe ribbon was perfect.  Ribbon with wire is always great for making large bows like this.  I grabbed two spools just to be safe.  Glad I did.  The actual bow took one whole spool and used part of the other to hang.

It looked so cute on my front door I have our Easter wreath hanging up already.  It’s never too soon to welcome Spring, right?

Need some wreath inspiration?  Check out my others!  Our front door is never bare.  Naked doors are boring!
